Description

This bloomin' onion has no need for the deep fryer - all you need is a hot griddle and a cover. This easy-to-make appetizer has a familiar crunch, with the natural sweetness of an onion. Don't skip the dipping sauce!

Ingredients
    Dipping Sauce
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ranch seasoning
  • 2 tbsp barbecue sauce
  • Bloomin' Onion
  • 1 yellow onion (large)
  • 1 cup Chili-Cheese Fritos
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
    Dipping Sauce
  1. Make the dipping sauce.

Combine sour cream and ranch seasoning. Then mix in bbq sauce. Cover and chill.

  2. Bloomin' Onion
  3. Make bloomin' onion.

Place Fritos in sandwich bag, remove air, seal, and crush chips into crumbs.

  4. Prepare onion. Cut off top of onion (opposite of root side) and peel off outside layers. Place onion flat-side down and cut into 12 equal sections, leaving center of onion and root in tact.

  5. Turn griddle to medium-high. Assemble foil ring. Tear off approximately 6 inches of foil, roll it, and then shape into a ring.

  6. Place ring on griddle and place onion, root side down, on top of ring. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle on chip crumbs, sprinkle on Parmesan cheese. Drizzle with more olive oil and cover for 15 minutes.

  7. At 5 & 10 minutes, squirt water under cover to create steam.

  8. After 15 minutes, remove from the griddle and serve with dipping sauce.
